ReCharge, ReBoot, Comfort Kits and Treasure Pouches

When I’ve been going through a tough time.  Feeling alone in my experience, super stressed at my job, or needing a little extra Higher Love I turn to my “comfort kits”.  They are perfect for these times we are facing and into the future.

I created a “recharge” kit about 8 months ago to get through some difficult days on the job.  It is well known that our senses communicate information to our bodies, brains and hearts ~~~and Spirit ! In my recharge kit I made sure I had everything covered. See, Touch, Taste, Smell and that combination further expanded to my other senses. I had homeopathy, essential oils, vibrational essences, crystals, oracle cards and plants in my kit. If I felt my mind spiraling toward negative thoughts, or maybe physical symptoms such as heart palpitations or a twist in my gut I would unzip my recharge kit and pull out one or more items and be present with them for a couple of minutes. The effect is directly proportional to the attention you give the moment. I would breathe in the essential oils and savour the sensation. I would hold Rescue Remedy under my tongue feeling gratitude for the gentle effect. Or hold a crystal in the palm of my hand feeling the shape and contours of the stone taking me out of my head and into my heart and body.

I also have one for the truck.  This is particularly helpful if I was in the big city navigating crowds and traffic and everything that goes along with living near a busy urban centre.

It doesn’t have to be a “kit”. Your comfort kit could be a little journal that you create filled with poems, quotes, prayers, little love notes.  Just one rule ! Use as many colors as you can and doodle all over the pages, get as creative as you possibly can. Or not, maybe the esthetic that feeds your soul is very different – that’s perfect ! The important thing to remember is; YOU are creating a source of inspiration, comfort and love. This little journal was really helpful for me during a health crisis a few years ago. I would source quotes and prayers, I spent time collecting all the little notes people had given me over the years. I would doodle, paste, tape and create. I had a set of colored markers and special pens. The act of creating this little journal helped me feel loved and connected while I navigated the crazy cancer journey.

Pouches have been a constant companion since I learned how to make them many years ago.  They are secret little “stashes” of comfort. I have them tucked away everywhere. Often, I will wear one when I’m needing that “invisible hug” from the Universe.  To add essential oils you can cut a little piece of fabric, sew a special crystal bead chip to it, put the drop of oil on the fabric and place inside your pouch. Feathers, shells, rocks………there are endless possibilities.

You don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of things !!! Just have a look around.  Go out in nature to the places that you love and see what shows up. Ask nature, the spirit of the place you are visiting, to share it’s wisdom and if something reveals itself, ask if you may take it for comfort and healing. If the answer is yes, then leave a little offering. The simplest is a strand of your hair. Easy to retrieve as you run your hands through your hair. (Offerings is a blog I’ll write for another day) You can create pouches with recycled fabric, ribbons and a bit of thread and a needle. You probably have old pencil cases laying around that you can embellish and doodle on. You can use herbs and plants that are close by – a little dried mint can elevate your mood.  I’d bet money you have that “special” friend who gave you that gift you had no idea what to do with ? Right !!?? Basically, everything you see in my photos 🙂 🙂 I am that “special friend”, hehe.

There are probably unused scribblers, and journals laying around in your kid’s rooms, or simple printer paper that you can bind later or put in that photo album you never got around to filling.

You could make this a family affair ! Each member of the family can create a comfort kit and maybe a combined one for the family.

The point is, whatever you use for comfort or self care needs to speak to you. It needs to take you out of your head and into your heart.  It is personal to you and has meaning for you. The magic comes from how it interacts with your senses, calms your nervous system, and redirects your thoughts.
