Sacred Space

Creating Sacred Space can connect you with Nature – without and within.  “Without” meaning Nature that you experience in the world around you.  “Within” meaning the Nature you experience inside of yourself.  The senses are a bridge in our relationship to the Natural world – seen and unseen.

It is a very easy practice to create sacred space as a way of activating those senses.  A way of making a connection and discovering the beauty that resides within each of us.

Something as simple as a special stone, shell or stick lovingly placed on your window sill or table can remind you of that connection every time you see it.

Or hanging a bundle of lavender that you harvested and wrapped can you remind you of that connection every time you catch a whiff of lavender’s scent.

Maybe it’s a selection of stones and crystals placed in a pouch that you wear around your neck or in your pocket.

Perhaps a couple times of year you mark a special occasion, memorial, or celestial event by creating an altar or special arrangement.

Cleansing your space by burning sacred herbs is a beautiful way of creating sacred space and connecting with Nature.

I don’t believe sacred space has to be complicated or elaborate.  And I don’t believe it has to be a stationary physical spot. Most importantly, what does sacred space mean for you ? What brings you joy and happiness when engaged with nature.  Bring those elements into your space.  And this is not limited to the space you live in.  I’ve been known to bring crystals, rocks, plants and framed poems and quotes to my workplace as a way of staying connected in an otherwise empty space.  Or maybe you have a greenhouse, a beautiful place to add little touches here and there.  Offerings to the nature spirits.

Enjoy the process, and the more you pay attention to those things that bring you joy and you incorporate into your spaces the more you will find magic and discovery happening all the time.  Synchronicities & messages will be part of your life on a regular basis.

Our spaces don’t have to be just utilitarian and functional only.  They can represent the beauty of nature and reflect that in ourselves.
